On June 13th was a post "Pistorius 3PH Double Miter Saw..." which entailed an online auction of a variety of picture framing equipment, wood and a variety of business operation items. The posting stated that the auction would terminate at 5:30p.m. CST. During the last 30 minutes, the auction was extended to 6:45p.m. Is it just me... or is this a deceptive action... on the part of someone?

Perhaps, but if you play in the area of unregulated commerce, you shouldn't be surprised by shenanigans like that.

What in the world is wrong with extending an auction - either because the bidding is active or the desired price hasn't been reached? We are not talking about "legal" constraints.
:popc:

Nothing illegal Pat, but it certainly doesn't lend credibility to the process. Posted closing times, and reserve prices should be adhered to. If the item doesn't reach reserve by the end of the open bidding, it sould be removed from bidding.
Changing the rules in the middle of the game? How would you like it?

I assume this was the k-bid auction. For what it is worth...Terms item two:
2. Auction Close. Online auctions shall close on the date and time identified on the specific auction site. The time listed as the closing time is when the closing process begins. All active items will remain open until no bids have been received for three minutes following the close of an online auction. K-BID reserves the right to modify Exact Start Time of Beginning of Auction Closing and rate of items closing per minute at its discretion on evenings with multiple auctions closing.

I have seen something like this many times on online auctions.

"URGENT!!! This is your last chance to get this equipment (6/13 - 6/14), so please call or stop in today for more information!!! All items are being sold in a K-Bid online auction, which ends Tuesday, 6/14 at 5:30 pm CST. Please follow this link to see current prices and to place your bid:"

The above lead me to believe that the auction ended at 5:50 pm. I guess I'm must be stupid to not realize that this means something other than what's stated!

I think that it would have been less deceptive to state, "... ends Tuesday, 6:14 at 5:30 pm CST, unless extended for a longer period of time in accordance with auctioneer's rules. When I logged in to be a bidder, and before agreeing to abide by the biding rules, I tried to find a link on the screen that would outlines those rules... but none was readily available.

Note to self: Live and learn.
