Right now, we're trying an experiment with our 3100 glass cutter. Who knows if it'll help, but we're replacing the light metal cylinder rods with heavier 1/4" thick chromed cylinder rods. When we first got it, our resident wizard added a welded handle to the thumb lever, which has made it much easier to operate. I'm wondering if you've replaced the rods on your cutter, and how it worked. Also, what else have you tinkered with?

Are they actually tubular? I was told that my 3000 rods are slightly oval.

I don't know, but the new ones are working great. Less flex, and a lot sturdier. They did have to tweak a couple things to make it work, but it's good now.
